The Energy Star label is a trustworthy indicator of the energy efficiency of new appliances, electronics, HVAC equipment and other types of energy-consuming products. The U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency have established criteria of energy efficiency that products must meet before they are granted Energy Star status. In 2011, the program became even more valuable to American consumers with the introduction of the Energy Star Most Efficient label.
If a product has earned program certification, it can be expected to use significantly less energy than a comparable noncertified model. With the introduction of the Most Efficient label, this already exclusive pool of energy-efficient appliances and equipment has been narrowed even further. Only the top 5 percent of products that have already been granted Energy Star certification can be further designated an Energy Star Most Efficient item.
Most Efficient products can be considered the “best of the best” of their category when it comes to energy use and savings. You will find the label on:
- Air conditioners
- Geothermal heat pumps
- Clothes washers
- Refrigerator-freezer combinations
- Computer monitors
- Ceiling fans
- Ventilating fans
When you choose products that have earned the Energy Star Most Efficient designation, you’ll be selecting items for use in your Dallas household that use the least amount of energy and save you the most money possible on your regular utility bills. For example, furnaces with the Most Efficient designation will have an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating of 97 percent or higher. This means that 97 percent of the energy in the fuel the furnace uses will be converted to heat that can be used in your home.
You can find the label on product literature, point-of-sale material, brochures, Web sites, the product’s EnergyGuide label and on the product itself.
