In North Texas communities such as Plano HVAC systems occasionally break down, as you probably know all too well. When this happens, you’ll want to call your local Plano HVAC company and arrange repairs right away, or if you heating or cooling system is old enough, or severely malfunctioning, consider getting a whole new system. With winter only a few months away, here are some tips for selecting a new HVAC heating system for your Dallas area home:
First of all, you want to be sure you’re getting the most energy-efficient model you can. In Plano HVAC use can drive your energy bills through the roof, so the less energy it uses, the better. In addition, the most efficient furnaces can qualify you for a federal tax credit.
So find a furnace bearing the blue Energy Star logo, which indicates it’s been proven to save money and energy. Also look for features that will save you energy, such as a variable-speed blower that usually operates at a slower, more continuous speed. This uses less energy and provides more even heating.
Also check the AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency). That’s how much fuel the unit turns into heat vs. how much is given off as exhaust in a given year. A high-efficiency furnace is one that sports an AFUE of at least 90 percent, meaning it converts nine-tenths of the fuel that goes into it into heat for our home.
You probably won’t get an oil-burning furnace, though. Most new furnaces run on natural gas, whereas oil furnaces tend to be found in older homes, typically in the Northeast. And if you get a natural gas furnace, be sure to get a sealed combustion unit. This seals the burner off from the air in your home, helping you avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
You may also opt to get a heat pump, which extracts heat from the outdoor air and pumps it into your home. They tend to work ineffectively in extremely cold temperatures, but are perfect for your milder, Plano HVAC needs.
